I tried to install the W7 Release Candidate into a new Partition on my XP machine and, following the 2nd reboot of the installation, my PC now comes up as far as the Boot From CD prompt and just sits there
If I put the installation DVD in the drive, restart and boot from the disk, it comes up with the Install Windows dialogue. After I select my language it gives me the option to Repair my computer or Install. If I choose the Repair option it brings up the Sysem Recovery Options dialogue but Startup Repair returns with Startup Repair could not detect a problem. If I choose Install it tries to do what it says on the tin and I end up back where I started. I used the W7 install option to clean out the partition but noticed when it rebooted the first time that it still thought that I had 2x Windows 7 OS on there.
At the moment I can't even start up in XP so I am considering wiring the HDD into another computer, removing and recreating the new partition, then starting again.

Any help or suggestions gratefully received.

Mike.

Check Partitioning: - If Startup Repair doesn't resolve the issue, it might be due to partitioning problems. - You mentioned that Windows 7 still thinks you have 2 Windows 7 OS. This could be due to incomplete partition cleaning. - Try recreating the partition from scratch: - Remove the hard drive and connect it to another computer. - Use disk management tools in the other computer to delete all partitions on the drive. - Recreate the partition and format it properly. 4. Reinstall Windows 7: - After recreating the partition, reinstall Windows 7 on the clean partition. - Ensure that you only have one Windows 7 installation on the drive. 5. Backup Important Data: - Before making any changes to the partitions or reinstalling the operating system, make sure to back up any important data on the hard drive. 6. Check Boot Sequence: - Ensure that the boot sequence in the BIOS is set to boot from the hard drive where Windows 7 is installed. 7. Consider Virtualization: - If you encounter further difficulties, you might want to consider running Windows 7 as a virtual machine on your XP system using software like VirtualBox or VMware Player. By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the issue with installing Windows 7 Release Candidate on your XP machine. If you need further assistance or encounter any specific errors during the process, feel free to ask for help.
