It seems like you are encountering an issue while trying to install Windows 7 on your Dell Studio 1458 laptop using a bootable USB drive. The error message you are seeing, "Unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition," typically indicates a problem with the partitioning of your hard drive during the Windows installation process. Here are some steps you can take to address this issue: 1. Check BIOS Settings: - Ensure that your USB drive is set as the primary boot device in BIOS. You can access BIOS settings by pressing a specific key (like F2 or Del) during the boot process. 2. Partition Management: - Since you mentioned you have a 35GB C drive and a 264GB second partition, you could try the following: - Use a partition management tool (like GParted or EaseUS Partition Master) to ensure that the partitions are set up correctly for Windows installation. - Make sure the C drive is marked as the primary active partition. 3. Disk Cleanup with DiskPart: - You can try cleaning the disk using DiskPart from the Windows installation command prompt: - Boot from the Windows 7 USB. - When you reach the installation screen with the error, press Shift + F10 to open a command prompt. - Enter the following commands:
Code:
diskpart list disk select disk X (replace X with the disk number of your hard drive) clean exit
- Close the command prompt and continue with the installation. 4. Data Backup: - It's crucial to back up your data before making any changes to your partitions. If you don't have an external drive to back up your data, you could consider using cloud storage services or borrowing an external drive from someone temporarily. 5. Recreate Partitions: - If possible, consider deleting both partitions and recreating them during the Windows installation to ensure they are set up correctly. 6. Recreate Bootable USB: - It's also worth ensuring that the bootable USB drive is properly created. You can recreate it using reliable tools like Rufus or the Windows USB/DVD Download Tool. Try these steps and let me know if you encounter any issues during the process. Feel free to provide updates on how the steps are working for you.
