Windows 7 Question about Ransomware

This is not a problem for me but I did not know where to post this question

Which is: When a computer is infected with Ransomware is just the C drive encrypted or do all other partitions and hard drives encrypted? I have 3 hard drives and one is external that is always connected with a total of 5 logical drives and although I back up my C drive, I am wondering if I need to back up the others? I am wondering due to the increase of Ransomware infections.

Thanks for the advice.
Jim

any drive that has a letter can be infected so yes c or d drive are both possible... a drive with no letter assigned to it can't be attacked by this type of malware.

Thank you for the prompt reply and the advice.
If one gets infected will a reformat of the C drive fix the other drives?

Ransomware encrypts files on any drive it can find, so you would need to format all the drives affected.
