This just started a month ago or so. If the PC is idle on the SS, sometimes it will BSOD. Other times it is fine. It BSOD'd with a sound loop in COD Black ops so I upgraded the sound driver. No difference as it just randomly crashed tonight after the gps was plugged it. Files are attached. Please point me in the right direction. I am in IT and I cannot even figure this one out. Thanks!

Hi there.

This is very simple:

1) Remove the notorious Norton/Symantec in safe mode with the tool here:

Link Removed due to 404 Error

2) I can't even see most of the drivers because of how bad Norton is...lol...so upload new crashes if they happen.

3) Be sure to install MSE to replace it, once you return to normal mode.

hmm so you think its Norton? Its running 2011. I have it on 5 other pcs with no issues but I am willing to give a shot at removing it for MSE.

Nope, not think. It 100% is a cause of the bsods or one of the multiple causes. Should be fine after it's removal. It's one of the worst pieces of software available today.

It happened again tonight,,,,,,,no Norton. Running just MSE

Cool, now we have a proper crash dump to sort the rest of the issues.

1) Visit the link and update your Logitech gamepad or other driver:

LGVirHid LGVirHid.sys Mon Nov 23 20:36:48 2009

Support + Downloads

2) Uninstall MotionJoy or whatever it's called, for the XBOX controller, to remove this problematic notorious driver:

xusb21 xusb21.sys Thu Aug 13 18:10:17 2009

3) Use Driver Sweeper in safe mode to clear all the old notorious Creative drivers of which these are 2 on your system:

ctac32k ctac32k.sys Wed Jul 02 04:38:22 2008
emupia2k emupia2k.sys Wed May 05 08:57:27 2010

Reboot and install the latest driver package from their site:

Phyxion.net | Driver Sweeper | Products | Products

Creative Worldwide Support

4) Update the Atheros lan driver:

L1E62x64 L1E62x64.sys Thu Jun 11 02:45:22 2009

Look in your motherboard manual or device manager for the exact type then download and install from here:

ATHEROS Network drivers for Windows

5) Navigate to C:\Windows\SysWoW64\drivers and delete this old defective driver:

AsIO AsIO.sys Mon Dec 17 04:11:49 2007

Reboot and install the latest PCProbeII from your motherboard website to replace it. It is in the utilities section of the downloads.

thanks for the quick reply. Looks like I have my work cut out lol. I'll take care of it tommorow and keep this post updated

You're welcome. If you want to do one of the quickies and get it out of the way, and the one that is likely to be causing most issues, do #4 for the Atheros now.

Updated the LAN driver last night. I'll hit the rest this weekend and see how it goes.

Was fine until tonight and it went BSOD again........halp!

You need to follow TorrentG's instructions 1, 3, and 5:

Update them or remove:

ctac32k.sys Wed Jul 02 04:38:22 2008
Creative AC3 SW Decoder

AsIO.sys Mon Dec 17 04:11:49 2007
ASUS utilities such as Probe

LGVirHid.sys Mon Nov 23 20:36:48 2009
LGBusEnum.sys Mon Nov 23 20:36:48 2009
Logitech WingMan

For now I would replace both these products with PowerISO, as I'm not sure there's no conflict between them:

AnyDVD.sys Tue Sep 14 09:16:14 2010
Elaborate bites

ElbyCDIO.sys Thu Sep 30 17:25:08 2010
Slysoft

You need to follow the full instructions. But, I don't think Norton was causing the problem because Norton is a great piece of software. Anyways, the instructions above should solve the issue...

Norton is the absolute most notorious software of all, not just of antivirus apps. It crashes machines in ways you couldn't believe and causes a multitude of other assorted issues.

RAM is the issue here, whether it be set unwell in the bios or simply defective.

Please post a screen shot of CPU-Z spd tab and also one of memory tab so we can see if the bios needs adjustment or not.

But yes, update all drivers shown that need it, too.

I've had Norton for 2 years and never experienced any issues.

It blocks all my viruses and scans everything before allowing the download to complete.

It's the best anti-virus and has the best customer support.

You have one machine.

I've analyzed, seen issues and stopped bsods on over 10k Win7 machines. That kind of experience can not be so easily dismissed.

10k > 1

will post the cpu-z stuff. I did follow all the instructions......Maybe try 1,3,5 again? anyways will post that in 1 sec

Post the spd tab. (You posted the cpu tab instead by mistake.)

That doesn't look right to me anyhow....so we can be sure if it is wrong when you post the spd....

Memory set unwell in the bios is the likely issue here.
