Hello,
I booted my work computer up and it was blue screening and restarting. A screen to recover appeared and I eventually got logged into windows but all my settings/icons had gone. I looked in the users folder and there was a new profile there. It was my username with an extra bit on the end for instance my profile name is collinsd and new folder was collinsd.eac . I tried to copy the files from the first folder into the new folder and got my icons back but not the start menu items and other settings.
Anyone got any ideas?
Cheers

Solution
It sounds like you might have encountered a corrupted user profile, leading to the creation of a new user profile with a slightly different name. Here are some steps you can take to potentially resolve this issue and restore your settings and start menu items:
Step 1: Create a New User Account

It sounds like you might have encountered a corrupted user profile, leading to the creation of a new user profile with a slightly different name. Here are some steps you can take to potentially resolve this issue and restore your settings and start menu items:
Step 1: Create a New User Account
- Create a New User Account: Since the current user profile might be corrupted, you can create a new user account with administrative privileges. This account will have a fresh user profile.
Step 2: Transfer Files and Settings
- Transfer Files and Settings:
- Copy any important files (documents, images, etc. from the old user profile (collinsd) to the new one (collinsd.eac).
Step 3: Recreate Start Menu Shortcuts
Step 4: Check for System Restore Points
[]Check for System Restore Points: If available, you can attempt to restore your system to a point before the issue occurred.Step 5: Registry Check
[]Registry Check: Ensure there are no registry issues causing the problem.Step 6: User Profile Repair
[]User Profile Repair: You can try repairing the user profile using Windows tools. If these steps do not resolve the issue, it might be helpful to consult your IT department or a professional technician for further assistance. By following these steps, you may be able to recover most of your settings and start menu items. Let me know if you need more specific guidance or assistance with any of these steps! - Copy any important files (documents, images, etc. from the old user profile (collinsd) to the new one (collinsd.eac).
