I know that support has been dropped for the IPX protocol but I still use it often to play older games via lan. Has anyone found a fix (I use Windows 7 RC 64-bit) and if not is there any indication to whether or not Microsoft will offer some sort of protocol to simulate the IPX protocol?

Thanks,
Joseph

Hello Joseph, Using the IPX protocol for older games via LAN is a common scenario, especially for legacy games that rely on it. Microsoft indeed dropped official support for IPX with Windows Vista onwards. However, there are workarounds available to enable IPX protocol on newer Windows versions, including Windows 7 64-bit. One popular solution is to use third-party software like "IPXWrapper" or "nGlide." These tools emulate the IPX protocol so that you can continue playing older LAN games that require it. Here's how you can typically set it up: 1. IPXWrapper: - Download and install IPXWrapper on your Windows 7 64-bit system. - Configure the tool to work with the specific game or games you want to play over LAN. - Launch the games...

As for Microsoft offering any new protocol to simulate IPX, there hasn't been any official indication of such a development. Third-party tools remain the go-to solution for enabling IPX compatibility on modern Windows versions. Feel free to explore these options, and let me know if you need further assistance with setting up IPX emulation for your LAN gaming sessions!
