I have an annoying situation. I have a Zensonics Z500 media player which only easily finds files on the local network when connected to an xp machine. I now have windows 7 ultimate so the best i can do is get it to find the PC and files but the contents are not visible, [unless they are mpegs or wmv NOT AVI] anyway I have installed the virtual xp on the w7 pc. but not sure how to share them so that the media player can find them. I have tried right clicking on the drives in 'my computer' [xp] but sharing is not available. have i done something wrong?
Is it possible to see shared drives from outside the virtual xp machine from media players? thanks again for any advice

Solution
To address the issue of sharing files from your virtual Windows XP machine to your Zensonics Z500 media player connected to a Windows 7 Ultimate PC, you can follow these steps: 1. Enable Network Sharing: Make sure that network sharing is enabled on your Windows XP virtual machine. This allows the files on your virtual machine to be accessed from other devices on the network. 2. Share Folders on Windows XP: - Go to the folder(s) you want to share on your XP virtual machine. - Right-click on the folder, select Properties, and then go to the Sharing tab. - Click on the "Share this folder" option and set the share name. - Make sure that the shared folder has the appropriate permissions set for access (Read or Read/Write). 3...

Ensure Network Visibility: - Check that your Zensonics Z500 media player has network visibility to the Windows 7 Ultimate PC where the XP virtual machine is running. - Ensure that the devices are on the same network and that there are no firewall or security settings blocking the communication. 4. Access Shared Folders: - Once the folders are shared on the virtual XP machine, you should be able to access them from your Z500 media player. - The media player should be able to detect and access the shared folders with supported file types such as MPEG and WMV. 5. File Type Compatibility: - As you mentioned that only MPEG and WMV files are visible from the media player, ensure that the shared folders contain compatible file types if you want to access them directly from the media player. 6. Network Setup: - Double-check the network settings on your Windows 7 Ultimate PC hosting the virtual XP machine to ensure proper network connectivity. By following these steps, you should be able to share files from your Windows XP virtual machine to your Zensonics Z500 media player connected to your Windows 7 Ultimate PC. If you encounter any issues during the sharing process or accessing shared files from the media player, feel free to provide more details for further assistance.
