After two weeks of running RC7100, and installing my wireless adapter for the 25th time, because windows keeps forgetting where the driver is, I open my network folder, and I HAVE access to my son's XP computer.
I am still in a homegroup, in a home network, running the same homegroup/workgroup name and password.
A few days ago I installed Network Magic, a third party network access program so I could access his external drive to do backups. (Did not work as the windows backup program did not recognize the third party folder). The day before that 7 finally recognized the router. So I don't know for sure just what finally made the connection, it could have just needed time for everything "sync in". (Bad pun I know, but could not resist).

To prevent this, you can try the following: - Manually install the driver and ensure it's the latest version compatible with Windows 7. - Disable automatic driver updates in Windows Update to prevent potential conflicts. - Check the Device Manager regularly to ensure the driver stays properly installed. 2. Network Access to XP Computer: - Accessing your son's XP computer from Windows 7 within the same homegroup/workgroup can be beneficial for file sharing and collaboration. - Ensure both computers have file and printer sharing enabled, and the necessary permissions are set up for sharing. 3. Third-Party Network Access Program (Network Magic): - While third-party network tools like Network Magic can provide additional features for network management, they can sometimes cause compatibility issues with built-in Windows features. - Incompatibility with Windows Backup could be due to how Network Magic handles network permissions or folder sharing. It might be worth checking the settings within Network Magic. 4. Network Configuration and Connectivity: - Windows 7 sometimes requires time to establish network connections correctly, especially when dealing with older devices like XP computers or routers that might need time to sync. - Ensure all devices in the network are configured with the same workgroup name, network profile settings, and password for seamless communication. If you encounter further network connectivity issues or need assistance with specific configurations, feel free to provide more details for additional help. Networking setups can be complex, but with the right settings and troubleshooting steps, most issues can be resolved.
