Transferring OS from old HDD to new HDD

I was wondering something...

I have bought a new 1TB SATA hard drive to use in my desktop computer and to replace my old 80GB IDE hard drive currently sitting in there now. I have not long reinstalled Windows on it and installed all the updates. When the new hard drive comes, I want to be able to transfer all the existing data on the old hard drive to the new one instead of having to reinstall Windows, programs and all the Windows Updates (which took me forever to install on this desktop). I have searched over the internet and on YouTube for a guide which can help me. Sadly, I can't find a good tutorial which will help me as many of the programs are either too complicated or you have to pay to use that feature.

I was hoping someone could help me with this situation as it seems I'm having no luck at all.

Thanks!

We will of course be on hand to give you any help if you should need it plus my colleagues may yet offer a simpler solution but in any case we'll help as much as we can.. :)
