Windows 7 tried opening webcam in windows media player

i wanted to veiw my webcam in a feed on my desktop so i tried to open it through windows media. didnt work. but then once i get back to my desktop i realized the icon for every file everywhere on my desktop, taskbar, start menu, folders. is an mp3 icon and now it tries to open everything through windows media player. any help
