i started encrypting a 1 tb external hard disk. abt 42% of the encryption was done when i paused and shut down the pc. now i cannot unlock it. when i type the password it stays for some time and the windows comes that it is not responding. i have to exit it becas its not wrking. pls can anybody tell me a solution for this. i need to open it as my back up files and evrythn is in it.

I found this FAQ that basically says if the power is turned off during encryption, it will resume when the power is restored.
I suppose yours has not attempted to do so on its own?

If you don't have it fixed yet, here is another site at Microsoft. Maybe the "Repair-bde" section will help.
