Windows 8 *UPDATED* Months of Bluescreens... now very frequently happening while watching Youtube videos

Hi all,

This has been an ongoing issue for months, but it had calmed down. But now the past few days it has become very frequent again - I am now getting totally fed up with it as I don't know what it causing it.

I have a 4770k Intel
Kingston 8GB 2400mhz ram
MSI MPower Z87 Board
AMD 290X video card
Separate SSD, and 2 WD Black Drives in RAID

I have attached the files.

I just uninstalled as much as I can possibly think of but it just bluescreened again. Several times today already. I think it is a video driver issue, but it has only just started doing it more frequently after upgrading to 13.12 WHQL. I was running a beta before this, but the 13.11 WHQL version didn't help the siutuation so I reverted back to beta 13.11 9.4 as it wasn't happening often. Now I am back on 13.12.

I have just removed my video capture card from the PC and uninstalled all its drivers.

I have updated all the drivers that MSI Live Update detects, then uninstalled the program.

This included the Audio Drivers, an Intel update, Motherboard BIOS update.

Nothing has worked.

Nothing is overclocked at all.

Can you please help me out here?

As I mentioned in the title it definitely seems to happen more when watching Youtube videos. I have updated flash to the latest version. It has never Bluescreened while playing games!

Thanks a bunch.

Edit: Just did a Windows Memory Diagnostic test - no issues. About to update my Intel Wireless drivers from 15.8.0.0 to 16.7.0.0. I'll keep you updated.

Edit 2: Latest files attached.

Hi,
apart from the above many of the dmp files pointed to the gpu driver as culprit although this can be caused another driver making that driver crash. I'll go through the driver stack and see what's what.

You need to remove your GPU drivers but first make sure your driver install settings are like this:

Although your GPU drivers are up to date you also have this:
AMDACPKSL.SYS Wed Sep 25 01:24:41 2013
It's part of the AMD driver but comes with OEM or laptop drivers. It sounds like you need to have a bit of a clear out as far as graphic driver files are concerned. Uninstall your GPU drivers using the app found here:
http://www.guru3d.com/files_details/display_driver_uninstaller_download.html
You'll need to enter safe mode. This link explains how using win 8/8.1:

Please update your sound drivers:

If after updating the above bsod still continues please download and run memtest86:

Lastly.... Merry christmas.. :)

Thank you SO much for replying today of all days... Merry Christmas to you too!

Will do what you say as soon as I can!

Will keep you updated.

Actually, I spoke too soon. Happened earlier while watching videos - this time using Twitch.tv. Absolutely no issues up to now playing BF4 hours on end. Just again on simple videos on the internet... Looks like another atikmdag.sys failure.

I have reuploaded the dump files here and in the OP.

Just to add, I ran memtest86, and it was a 100% pass.

Unless you can see something that is obvious to check, then I'm going to replace Windows 8 with Windows 7 to see if it fixes the issue. Prefer Windows 7 anyways.

Hi kemical,

Yes I am sure I used it. Just to double check I used it again (in Safe Mode etc) and reinstalled 13.12 WHQL.

I will update that driver also as my Intel wireless device before has suddenly broke and am using a different dongle.

So if all the above is done and it still bluescreens, what could the possible problem be? Is it then worth reinstalling to Windows to have a completely clean slate and hopefully more stable drivers (if that's the issue...)?

Edit: Ah NVM, what you linked is only for Win 7 anyways :p

It could be that it's simply a brand new card and the drivers have yet to settle down and allow for every instance. It might well be worth checking the forums of owners of the 290X and see if anyone else is getting s similar issue. What size is your PSU by the way?

Okay thanks. :)

Just so you know, there was a BIOS update for the card from Asus, so I have flashed that. So fingers crossed...

Edit: On AMD forums there is someone with the same EXACT issue than me, Youtube and same error. Was suggested to turn off hardware acceleration in browsers and Flash as apparently it can cause the issue. Gonna see if that works too.

Just to update, the GPU BIOS switching/upgrading, turning off hardware acceleration for flash and swapping to Chrome rather than Firefox has fixed the issue (most likely one of the first two). Touch wood should stay like this! PC isn't hanging for about 30 seconds while shutting down either which is a bonus - now shuts down instantly, so something must have been interfering before I presume.

Hey Paganister,
much thanks for updating your thread. Glad to hear all is going well and if you should need any further help please don't hesitate to ask.. :)

Oh! Happy New Year too....:clock:
