Hi

I am planning to upgrade three work computers from XP Pro SP3 to Windows 8.1 Pro

The most straight-forward / cost-effective way I can see to do this is to buy the Windows 8 Pro N upgrade then do the free update to 8.1. The only available version on the UK Microsoft site is this student upgrade (I'm not a student so unfortunately this isn't relevant):

Is the Windows 8 Pro N upgrade available to non-students in the UK?

Many thanks

Tom

Availability for Non-Students:

  • The availability of the Windows 8 Pro N upgrade for non-students in the UK may vary.
  • Typically, Microsoft offers different editions and versions of Windows to different customer segments, including students, businesses, and general consumers.
  • It's recommended to check directly on the Microsoft Store or authorized retailers in the UK for the most up-to-date information on purchasing Windows 8 Pro N as an upgrade.

Alternatives:

  • If the student upgrade version is the only one currently visible on the UK Microsoft site, you might want to explore other authorized retailers or Microsoft's official partners for alternative upgrade options.
  • It's possible that other editions or versions of Windows 8 Pro N may be available for non-students through different channels.

Upgrade Considerations:

  • Before proceeding with the upgrade, ensure that your work computers meet the system requirements for Windows 8.1 Pro to ensure a smooth transition.
  • Backing up important data and settings before upgrading is essential to prevent data loss during the process.
  • Consider any software or hardware compatibility issues that may arise with the transition to Windows 8.1 Pro.
If you have any further questions or need assistance with the upgrade process, feel free to ask!
