Windows Vista USB optical mice all fail

This is ridiculous.

This morning my USB wired optical mouse failed. The pointer would not move but left & right mouse buttons worked !!! It is a standard MS Wheel Mouse Optical 1.1 USB & PS/2 compatible. It will not light up. It is plugged in direct not via hub. When I unplug & plug back = Device not recognised.

I then plug in spare wired USB SONY Optical 3D mouse - same problem ...left & right buttoms works ...mouse pointer frozen. Identical scenario with wired USB Logitech trackerball mouse.

NO Windows mice functional.

I take MACALLY dotmouse from MACBOOK PRO & plug in and it works perfectly.

What is going on ...this is weird. Still no working ' MS ' mouse.

Have you tried using a different USB port? Also make sure the bios setting for 'support for USB mouse ' is enabled if you have such a setting.

Hi there

All MS mice non-functional plugged directly into Shuttle not hub; as is the workiing MACALLY mouse.
Using VISTA ultimate...will check BIOS but settings not changed.

Removing mice from HID in Device Manager disables MACALLY as well ( own goal). Restart makes no difference to MS mice. Plug in MACALLY then returns mouse functionality.

MUCH MUCH more suspicious of those MS automatic updates.

Hi Richard,
what i actually meant was if you have the mouse plugged into the front usb ports then try the ones at the back.
