I have a desktop and a laptop. I would like to get to the files on my desktop using my laptop when I don't want to be at my desk. If I go to "view network computers and devices" on my laptop I see my desktop listed as MOM-PC but when I click on it to open it I get "Windows cannot access //MOM-PC. If I go to the start button and type in the IP address with \\192.xxxxxx it shows me the document file and I am good to go. I don't want to have to remember the IP address so how can I get the Network share to work using the PC's name that is shows me is there and connected or how can I get that name to be the IP address if that is what will work?

While you are checking on the previous post, are these all Windows 7 computers? Do you sign in using a password and have a user on both computers with the same user name? Are the workgroups the same on both?
