Installed a nice new Windows 7 RC on my system today. Everything fine and much faster than the beta.

However my webcam shows up as unknown in device manager. It is the only item unknown but before it was detected fine on Beta. It is the Philips SPC900NC USB I have made sure it is on a USB 2.0 port and fully powered.

If anyone has ideas please let me know, as the GF is going mad without Yahoo Messenger.

Thanks in advance, Turtle

    []Update Drivers:
    • Right-click on the unrecognized webcam device and select Update Driver.
    • Choose to search automatically for updated driver software.
    • If no update is found, you may need to manually download and install the latest drivers from the Philips website that are compatible with Windows 7 RC.
    []Compatibility Mode:
    • Try installing the webcam drivers in compatibility mode for Windows Vista, as Windows 7 RC is closer in architecture to Vista.
    [
    ]Check USB Connection:
    • Ensure the USB port itself is working properly by testing with another device.
    • Try connecting the webcam to a different USB port on your system.
    []Power Supply:
    • Ensure that the webcam is receiving sufficient power. Some USB cameras require a powered USB hub for proper operation.
    [
    ]Check Windows Updates:
    • Make sure your Windows 7 RC installation is up to date by checking for and installing any available updates.
    []Restart Your Computer:
    • Sometimes a simple restart can fix driver recognition issues.
    [
    ]Reinstall Webcam Software:
    • Uninstall the current webcam software and then reinstall it after restarting your system.
  2. Contact Philips Support:
    • If the issue persists, it might be beneficial to reach out to Philips customer support for specific assistance related to their webcam model.

      Additional Note:

    • It's worth noting that Windows 7 RC is quite old now, and it's recommended to consider upgrading to a more recent and supported version of Windows to ensure security and compatibility with the latest software and hardware. Try these steps and see if they help in resolving the issue with your webcam. Let me know if you need further assistance!
