The expression sandbox comes from the safety procedure used by the military etc for unsafe potentially explosive devices. In IT it is used in development or other environments to store potentially unsafe code/data.

Saltgrass Excellent Member Microsoft Community Contributor Feb 29, 2012 #3 Windows Update makes those... Normally in the Windows/SoftwareDistribution/Downloads folder. The ones I see right now do not show a \sandbox, but they might during an actual update in progress. Last edited: Feb 29, 2012
