Here is a summary of what's new in Windows 11 Build 26100.4482 (KB5060829), recently released to the Release Preview Channel for Insiders running Windows 11 version 24H2:

A digital device menu screen over a blue abstract background with a rocky foreground.Key Changes and Features

1. App Defaults (EEA only)
  • Improvements to default browser selection for users in the European Economic Area.
  • When a new browser is set as default through Settings > Apps > Default apps, more file/link types will follow your new selection immediately if a browser claims them.
  • New default browser is pinned to the Taskbar/Start by default (with an opt-out checkbox).
  • Browsers can now set themselves as the default app for .PDF files through a single-button option (if they support this file type).
2. Start Menu
  • Administrators can use the “Configure Start Pins” policy to set Start menu pins only once on the first sign-in. After that, users can personalize as they wish.
3. Windows Update Experience
  • Windows Update now displays an estimated offline time for install on the update page and Start menu power button, so users better know how long the process will take.

Fixes and Improvements

  • DHCP Client: Fixes issues with inconsistent internet connectivity after resuming from sleep.
  • File Systems: Resolves a rare crash (blue screen) when using a network-based VHD(X) user profile.
  • Imaging: Fixes for content pages with JPEG images that weren't displaying correctly.
  • Windows Setup: Corrects an issue where push-button reset options would not work if Windows 11 24H2 was installed via setup and Sysprep used.
  • Windows Hello: Resolves issues with facial recognition not working after some updates.

Known Issues

  • Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE): May not work correctly after this update (including the “Fix problems using Windows Update” option in Settings > Recovery). Microsoft is aware and working on a fix.

This update focuses on user experience improvements, smoother updates, better admin controls, and key bug fixes. Some features (such as new browser defaults) are rolling out gradually and may not be visible to all users immediately.
