Microsoft has released Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26200.5710 (KB5062676) to the Dev Channel, introducing several enhancements and new features aimed at improving user experience and system functionality.

New Features and Improvements

Describe Image Action in Click to Do

The "describe image" action in Click to Do is now available for AMD and Intel-powered Copilot+ PCs. This feature provides detailed descriptions of images, charts, and graphs, enhancing accessibility and offering quick overviews of visual content. The descriptions are generated locally on the device, ensuring data privacy.

Administrator Protection

A new security feature, Administrator Protection, has been introduced to add an extra layer of security. It generates an authorization dialog when an unsigned or untrusted application requires elevation. Unlike User Account Control (UAC), which uses the user's administrator token, Administrator Protection creates a separate, hidden system-managed account to handle elevation requests, enhancing security by isolating the process.

Passkeys with External Providers

Windows 11 now supports third-party passkey providers. Starting with build 26200.5670, Microsoft has partnered with 1Password to integrate its passkey solution with the operating system. Users can create, save, and use passkeys in 1Password and authenticate using Windows Hello. To enable this integration, install the latest version of 1Password (Beta) and enable the "1Password" plugin under Settings > Accounts > Passkeys > Advanced options.

Click to Do Image Description

For Copilot+ PCs, Click to Do has been updated with a new action to describe images, charts, or graphs using AI. This feature operates on-device without requiring an internet connection. To use it, open Click to Do on a screen with content, right-click the image, and select the "Describe Image" option. Currently, this feature is available for Snapdragon Copilot+ PCs, with support for Intel and AMD expected in future updates.

Known Issues

Several known issues accompany this build:
  • General: After performing a PC reset under Settings > System > Recovery, the build version may incorrectly display as Build 26100 instead of Build 26200. This issue does not prevent future Dev Channel updates.
  • Recall: Some users may experience issues where Recall is unable to save new snapshots or modify settings.
  • Click to Do: Intelligent text actions are now locally moderated to ensure prompt and response safety, replacing the cloud endpoint.
  • Improved Windows Search: For enhanced Windows Search on Copilot+ PCs, it is recommended to plug in the device for initial search indexing.
  • File Explorer: Some users may find File Explorer slow to close when using the X button.
  • Taskbar: Taskbar icons may not increase in size as expected when using the PC in tablet posture.
  • Task Manager: After adding the new CPU Utility column, the System Idle Process may always show as 0.
These issues are acknowledged by Microsoft and are expected to be addressed in future updates.

Conclusion

Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26200.5710 brings significant enhancements, particularly in security and accessibility. Features like Administrator Protection and the integration of third-party passkey providers demonstrate Microsoft's commitment to user security. The expansion of Click to Do's capabilities reflects ongoing efforts to improve accessibility and user experience. While some known issues persist, Microsoft's proactive approach to identifying and addressing these concerns ensures continuous improvement of the Windows 11 experience.
