Hey there,
After upgrading to a larger hard drive, I have been unable to use the sleep function without getting a BSOD after waking it up. My laptop goes to sleep fine, but when resuming, it shows the log-on screen for a moment before showing a BSOD, error code 0x0.....F4 . I never had a this problem with my old hard drive. I have tried a hard disk check, RAM check, updated drivers, changed sleep/power settings, etc. Hibernate works fine, but that is not nearly as handy when you have to quickly resume working!
I attached my system info, event log, and most recent minidump file, HOWEVER, these BSODs do NOT show up in my minidump folder (I have double checked the settings for minidumps) so that is likely a one-time BSOD unrelated to this problem. Not sure why these do not show up -- perhaps because it occurs coming out of the sleep mode?
Thank you for your time,
Shane

Hello and welcome.
RTSTOR64.SYS is your issue. It's a driver for the Realtek card reader you have. You need to update it to the latest version available:
RTSTOR64 RTSTOR64.SYS Thu Jan 03 07:57:25 2008
Search the device manager for the exact type of Realtek reader you have and then search for the updated driver on the left side of this link:

If you can't seem to find it, then download from your laptop manufacturer's website.
You'll also want to navigate to C:\Windows\System32\drivers and delete this very old one:

Reboot and run Ccleaner to clean the registry.
Update your PenTablet driver too from its manufacturer's site. It's way old:

SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000007e)
This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
/NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is
happening.
Arguments:
Arg1: ffffffffc0000005, The exception code that was not handled
Arg2: fffff8800237c0c9, The address that the exception occurred at
Arg3: fffff880053dfa28, Exception Record Address
Arg4: fffff880053df290, Context Record Address

Hey guys,
I want to thank you for your quick replies and detailed suggestions . I did my best to update and fix as many of those drivers as possible, including the Realtek USB Card Reader driver, though I couldn't find updates for everything (my laptop manufacturer hasn't posted updated drivers since 2008). I also used Ccleaner to fix registry problems.
However, I still get the BSOD coming out of sleep. I think the issue is that the minidump file each of you looked at was for a different BSOD with error 7E. When the BSOD occurs coming out of sleep, it does NOT show up in the minidump folder, so that minidump file you looked at was NOT related to this problem (I don't think).
More detail about when this BSOD started:
I got a larger hard drive, a Samsung 640gb hdd to replace a Western Digital 250gb hdd. I cloned the 250gb hdd to the 640gb drive and it works perfectly as if I have the same hdd but with more space. Could there have been some compatibility problems that the new hard drive has with some files that were on the old one, preventing successful sleep mode transitions?
I attached a blurry photo of the BSOD that shows everytime I wake my laptop from sleep (error F4).
Thanks again!
Oh and I did NOT delete avast! yet. It doesn't seem like that would be the problem, but let me know...

If you've updated the card reader drivers, then that's one of the problems you were having out of the way. Suggest to go over the other things shown and complete them as best you can.
If you post a new minidump files, we can then take things from there to see what should be done.

Hi again,
I made some more updates and removed avast! and installed MSE. Thought I might have fixed it, but when it showed my desktop after waking from sleep, all desktop icons were gone and Windows basic theme was on. I restarted (fixed my weird desktop) and tried putting it into sleep again. The same BSOD occurred after resuming . . .
BTW, no new minidumps are ever created from this BSOD. Double checked minidump settings, but still no minidumps.

Update as many as are available for your notebook. Also, you can search manufacturers sites directly. If you can't update something, disable it in the device manager (such as 56k modem and cam) or uninstall the software that you are not using anyway.
Uninstall Avast, install MSE - you need to do this for troubleshooting purpose. When your system is all fixed and stable, you can install any security you like.

Finished making those updates/disabling/deleting.
Nothing but more problems now.
At some point my plug and play devices like my Flash Drive and my CD drive no longer show up under My Computer. Under devices, they are listed with a yellow triangle and exclamation point, but troubleshooter cannot fix the problem (says to reinstall drivers, can't find itself).
At one point, after installing a Java update and a tablet driver (says it required a restart, so I restarted) then another BSOD occurred, requiring a startup repair. I had to do a system restore to be able to bootup and login correctly again. This did not fix the external drives problem, they still do not show up under My Computer.
edit: Also, when I try resuming from sleep now, all I get is a black screen (as if the LCD is off, no backlight), not a BSOD like before, while the computer itself seems to be running. When I press the power button, it shuts off.
I am still confused why I have had to update drivers that were installed and working fine BEFORE I switched hard drives, when sleep mode still worked.

Those drivers were from before 7 rtm final, 2006-2009, they could have been related to your bsod's.I am still confused why I have had to update drivers that were installed and working fine BEFORE I switched hard drives, when sleep mode still worked.
Attach your ltest crash dumps, if drivers are all good then
1. check if ACPI function is enbled in bios and try toggling s1/s3
e.g. Link Removed due to 404 Error
2. do the memtest overnight:
RAM - Test with Memtest86+ - Windows 7 Forums
