Every time I open a folder with an MPG ( or MPEG) file,((( In windows 7 Build 7000 & RC1 ))) Windows Explorer crashes.:(

(don't Problem with wmv file)

I used CCleaner, and even installed the Win7 Codec pack and removed broken codecs, and still, I am having the same problem.

Anyone help please?

Just a note to all posters who are having problems.

In order to troubleshoot your problem we neede to know more detailed specs of your system hardware.

Five choices
1. Go to Start > Run, and type msinfo32
2. Go to Control Panel > Device Manager and look for any entry that has a yellow flag beside it
3. Download |MG| SIW (System Info) 2009.5.12
4. Download |MG| SIV (System Information Viewer) 3.36
5 Please fill out your computers specs in the User Control Panel here on the site as well. It will then appear next to your name. look at my posting and you'll see the drop-down arrow.

Have yoiu try using the open source program called VLC (Video Lan Player
VLC media player - Overview

Also, was this a "clean" install or an upgrade?

Did you check Windows Update to see if any available updates are listed?

Thank you for the information,

Open another folder and change the view in Windows Explorer to List or Details. then choose Folder Options and select View and click apply to all folders.

Can you open Windows Media Player and browse to a mpeg file and see if it opens/

I would completely remove all Codec packs...Installing more than I can cause conflicts

I'd suggest you download revoUninstaller

This program run the regular uninstaller, then continues to remove reference to files and registry entries.

Then restart your computer and try again.

try going to Control panel > Programs and Features, click the View installed updates in the list. You should have 3.

Is that correct?

OK

I just went with a new Internet provider and haven't setup my router yet

I'll connect the Windows 7 machine and see if there are new updates for me as well.

Do the updates you are viewing begin with KB?

Be back in afew minutes

OK,

I booted up and Activating Windows came up, which I had already done.

the updates I'm interested in all have the KB before the number.

I now also have 6, so there goes that suggestion.:(

Did you try the earlier suggestion regarding ownership?

First open the drive that contains the folder that's giving you the problem

Next, right-click on that folder, choose properties, uncheck the Read-Only box if it's checked.
Next, open the Security tab and click Edit.

Next, select your username in the list and click the checkbox for Full Control.

Shut down and restart and post back
