Windows 7 does not boot faster

mine boots up in 16secs after the bios with the internat fully useable straight away when getting on the desktop:confused:

only reason why i think i ll use win7 is its compatibility with XP software.. one or 2 minute difference in starting up will be the last reason for my choice ..:D

Check Administrative logs under Event Viewer \custom it's usually specific about what's hanging up and timing out.

boot up w7

windows 7 is faster overall but it is decieving, making the boot screen animate tricks us into thinking its faster through visuals, dont know about yours but the sounds and appearence of the logon seem out of sync??,boot up is ok,not as fast as xp but better than vista,on my machine once the desktop is on, the harddrive stops and is done,no messing, straight into any program i want

As I said before my problem is not boot up time it is shutdown/reboot time it takes 147.493 seconds :( I find that very slow
Boot up time is 78.898 seconds.
I would like to know why the slow shut down/restart time?

Also At start up I get this
Host Process for Windows Services (svchost.exe) took 4075 ms longer to start up than usual. [Total: 6349 ms - Usual: 2274 ms]

Checkout this page supersarge it might be a help?:

Very slow shutdown - Windows 7 Forums

Also try running ccleaner and a malware/virus scan..

Mine boots much faster then with Vista. It only takes half the time to access the internet after fully loading.
I love it!

How fast does your system Boot?

Ok..bit of fun time.. Using this app found here: BootRacer - Test your Windows boot speed

I just wondered what the average boot time is for those using either 32bit or 64bit? So please state which one your using when posting your result.
My result is in the screenie below..
Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit
Specs are in my sig..

Thanks kemical, this was "fun".

Below is the results of my testing of Win 7 RC versus XP-SP3 Pro.
Both OS's installed on same machine in multi boot setup so machine specs. are the same for both.

System Specs
Computer: Acer Aspire 5672 WLMi notebook
Processor: Intel 2.0 GHz Core2Duo (codename merom)
Memory: 4 GB DDR2 667 MHz operating in Synchronous Dual Channel Mode
Hard Drive: 320 GB Seagate Momentus 7200.3

Autologon enabled for both OS's.

Startup programs as reported by Sysinternals "autoruns" app. same for both OS's.

Win 7 installed on 22.53 GB NTFS partition at physical end of 320 GB/7200 RPM SATA drive

Win 7 RC BootRace results.

Logon time: average of 5 boot cycles - 39 seconds

Desktop time: average of 5 boot cycles - 57 seconds

XP-SP3 Pro installed on 22.53 GB NTFS partition at physical beginning of 320 GB/7200 RPM SATA drive.

XP-SP3 Pro BootRace results.

Logon time: average of 5 boot cycles - 42 seconds

Desktop time: average of 5 boot cycles - 88 seconds

Sorry don't have 64 bit Win 7 RC installed so I can't compare Win 7 RC 32 bit versus 64 bit.

Results do show Win 7 for me is somewhat quicker to boot than XP.

Cool!... More results mean a better data base...:D
27 seconds... but this isn't really accurate because looking at a clock when you press your power button and then checking it again when the hourglass disapperars is actually over 60 seconds.

This program reported 27 seconds

Still...pretty good though....

Or should i say pretty awesome..27 seconds....phew thats fast!
