I have windows 7 downloaded, i have burnt it to a bootable disc, and tryed installing it.
Everytime it finishes expanding windows files, it restarts and just goes to BSOD with a
STOP: 0x0000004e (0x00000099, 0x0004d3ff, 0x00000005, 0x00000001) message
it says PFN_LIST_CORRUPT
I have tried installing as a upgrade from XP, and have even reformatted the entire drive, still having problems.
Any help?

The error message you are encountering, "PFN_LIST_CORRUPT," indicates that there might be an issue with the Page Frame Number (PFN) list. This can occur due to various reasons, such as corrupt system files, faulty RAM, or incompatible hardware. Here are some steps you can take to try and resolve this issue:
- Check for Hardware Issues:
- RAM: Run a memory diagnostic test to check for any issues with your RAM. You can use built-in tools like Windows Memory Diagnostic or third-party tools like Memtest86.
- Make sure all your drivers are up to date, especially chipset and storage drivers, as outdated drivers can sometimes cause this error.
- Run the System File Checker tool (sfc /scannow) to scan and repair any corrupted system files that might be causing the issue.
- Disconnect any external devices (except for essential keyboard and mouse) during the installation process to see if any of them are causing conflicts.
- Check your BIOS settings and ensure they are correctly configured for your hardware. Resetting BIOS settings to default might help in some cases.
- If you haven't already, try performing a clean installation of Windows 7 without upgrading from XP. Make sure to format the drive properly during the installation process.
- Run a disk check utility (chkdsk) to scan the disk for errors and repair any bad sectors.
- Boot in Safe Mode:
- Try booting the system in Safe Mode to see if the installation completes without issues. It's essential to take these steps systematically to identify and resolve the root cause of the BSOD error you are experiencing during the Windows 7 installation process. If the issue persists, you may also want to consider seeking help from a professional or contacting Microsoft support for further assistance.
