Windows 7 Windows 7 Genuine Error

I looked through the other posts, and I tried everything.
Ok so this has been bugging me for a while, I have a Gateway computer with windows 7 pre-installed on it. Then one day when I turn on my computer I get this message that says I am not running a genuine windows 7.

At first it didn't impact me that much until I realized I couldn't update anything. So, I have tried everything. It won't let me update my CD key so make it genuine. I have the key, I found it on a sticker on the side of my computer.

I don't know what caused this, but I would appreciate any help. Oh and here is some info I heard might come in handy identifying the problem.

1. Have you tried activating by phone:

start -> slui 4 -> select your country, click next and follow the instructions.

2. Have you contacted Microsoft on this?

I just asked on Microsoft answers and this is what he said. I think it answers my question.
"You need to return your Gateway computer to the store you purchased it from and demand a 100% refund! Someone installed an OEM copy of Windows 7 Home Premium that can only be activated on an Acer computer! The activation mechanism is looking for an Acer motherboard BIOS in order to activate, but you have a Gateway motherboard BIOS, thus, it will never activate!

From your MGA Report:

Windows License Type: OEM SLP

Product Name: Windows 7 Home Premium

Manufacturer>Gateway</Manufacturer><Model>DX4831

SLIC ACRSYSACRPRDCT"

If you are positive that the Windows 7 installed on your computer is legitimate, you need to contact Microsoft to get this issue resolved. If you purchased an actual copy of Windows 7, or purchased a computer (Dell, Gateway, HP, etc.) that came with Windows 7, you should definitely not be getting this error.

Call these MS #s & retell this scenario there:

MS Licensing Group 1-877-426-6010
PC Safety 1-866-727-2338
They will advise how to procede.

Regards,
Drew

Hi

Do what Drew said, Microsoft is actually pretty easy to deal with.
They will probably solve the issue on the spot by giving you a new registration number that will work.

Come back and let us know how this works out.

Sound like the factory really screwed up on this one, I bet you aren't the only one!
They must have gotten the disks mixed up, the probably build the computers in the same plant.
