I just did a clean install of Windows 7 Pro 32bit onto my Dell Laptop. The browsing speeds as well as download speeds are horribly slow (I get a max of 80kbps download). I have updated the drivers on my Intel Pro wireless 3945abg Wireless device and the speeds have not improved. I currently have a subscription to Comcast 16meg Broadband. The speed is to the point where Dial-up seems faster. Please help!!!!

Slow internet speeds after a clean installation of Windows 7 Pro on your Dell laptop can be frustrating, especially when you're experiencing speeds as slow as 80kbps on a 16 Mbps broadband connection. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially improve your internet speed:

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Check Network Settings:
    • Make sure your network settings are correct. Ensure that your network adapter is connected to the correct network and that you are not inadvertently connected to a slower or restricted network.
    []Restart Modem and Router:
    • Restart your modem and router by unplugging them, waiting for a minute, and then plugging them back in. This can sometimes resolve...

This can sometimes resolve connectivity issues.

    ]Check Other Devices:
    • Test the internet speed on other devices to see if the issue is specific to your Dell laptop. If other devices are also experiencing slow speeds, the problem might be with your internet connection itself.
    []Run Network Troubleshooter:
    • Use the built-in Network Troubleshooter in Windows to diagnose and resolve network issues. This can help identify the root cause of the slow speeds.
    [
    ]Update Network Drivers:
    • Ensure that all network drivers are up to date, including your wireless adapter drivers. You mentioned updating the Intel Pro wireless drivers, but you may also need to update other network drivers.
    []Check for Interference:
    • Interference from other electronic devices or neighboring networks can affect your Wi-Fi signal. Make sure your laptop is not surrounded by devices that could interfere with the wireless connection.
    [
    ]Change Wireless Channel:
    • If you're using a wireless connection, try changing the wireless channel on your router to see if that improves the signal strength and speed.
    []Disable Antivirus/Firewall Temporarily:
    • Sometimes, security software can interfere with network connections. Temporarily disable your antivirus/firewall software to see if it makes a difference in speed.
    [
    ]Update Windows:
    • Ensure that your Windows 7 installation is fully up to date by checking for and installing any available updates.
  2. Check with Your ISP:
    • If none of the above steps resolve the issue, contact your Internet Service Provider (Comcast) to check if there are any known issues in your area or if they can provide assistance with troubleshooting.

      Additional Note:

The age of Windows 7 and the compatibility of its drivers with newer technologies could also be a factor. Consider upgrading to a newer version of Windows for better performance and support for modern hardware and software. Try these steps and let me know if you see any improvements in your internet speed.
