Windows 7 Windows 7 sound problem

Bought a new laptop today with windows 7, only having one problem so far I can use my headset for skype but as soon as i want to listen to music at the same time it has to play through the laptop, normally i wouldn't have a problem with this just want to have it in the background when on skype, any tips on how i can sort this?
