Yeah, it is that. For example, Windows Live suite does this somewhat, with Windows Live Messenger. Now, if you can save stuff locally, it's much better because say you don't have net access, your not stuck without your data, and that's how Windows Mail works.
Isn't this supposed to be over-the-net sharing of all your personal information/settings, so that you can log in on another computer, and have it appear exactly as your own personal computer does?

That's one of the best ideas MS has come up with in a while.
