After a Windows 7 Update of an optional hardware driver earlier this week I've been having Windows Genuine Validation problems.

I did a System Restore to prior to the update installation and now I keep getting Windows Validation errors.

When I run the WindowsActivationUpdate.exe I get the following error dialogue:

I also get a similar error when I run the Windows Update Readiness Tool (Windows6.1-KB947821-v28-x64.msu):

Running the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool produces the following report:

The above report lists "file mismatch" and "tampered files", which are, presumably, the cause of my problems.

How do I correct this?

I tried a Windows 7 Upgrade (from my original Windows 7 Ultimate ISO disk created from the original software downloaded and paid for from Microsoft) but after about 2 hours grinding through the upgrade process it reported it was was unsuccessful that my hardware was not compatible with Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit), which has been running perfectly on this computer for over 2 years.

How can I resolve this issue and get my Genuine Windows 7 Ultimate to recognize that it is genuine?

Any assistance will be appreciated.

Thanks in anticipation

Trevor

I'm not up to date on the subject, but I guess I shall have to become so. I never intended to have WAT installed on my computer, but checking updates, it slipped in some how. The best that I recall, once installed, it can't be uninstalled, which is a good reason to never install it.

From what I read here:

http://www.mydigitallife.info/wat-u...s-7-activation-cracks-with-dynamic-signature/

It would appear that more issues will appear, but as to the best solution for them, I will have to leave to your judgement.

You could uninstall the update in Control Panel\System and Security\Windows Update\View update history > Installed Updates.

Or, restore the system to a point before the problem, Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Backup and Restore.

If either helps, be careful with installing new updates. Go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Windows Update > Change Settings and choose an option NOT allowing automatic updates.

Some Windows 7 come with a flaw in their product number, and they need to be activated again and again. I have such a copy, now and then I get the remark that the Windows is not genuine, even if it's bought and downloaded directly from Microsoft.

The most certain way to deal with it is to call Microsoft. Have the product number available, and computer running.
