Solution
If you are experiencing issues where right-clicking on the Windows 7 Start Orb and selecting "Open Windows Explorer" does nothing, it might be due to a local policy or setting that needs adjustment. Here are steps you can take to potentially reset this issue:

    • Run a System File Checker (SFC) scan to check for and repair corrupted system files. To do this:
      • Press Win + R, type in cmd, and press Enter.
      • In the Command Prompt window, type sfc /scannow and press Enter.

    • It's possible that Group Policy settings are affecting this behavior. To check and possibly reset these settings:
      • Press Win + R, type in gpedit.msc, and press Enter.
      • Navigate to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar.
      • Look for any policies related to the Start menu or Windows Explorer and adjust them as needed.

    ]Registry Modification:
    • Be cautious when modifying the registry. Backup your registry or create a system restore point before making changes.
      • Press Win + R, type in regedit, and press Enter.
      • Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer.
      • Look for any keys related to Windows Explorer or Start Menu behavior and adjust them if needed.
    []Use System Restore:
    • If the issue started recently, you can use System Restore to revert your system to a previous state when the right-click functionality was working.
      • Press Win + R, type in rstrui, and press Enter.
      • Follow the on-screen instructions to choose a restore point prior to the issue occurring.

    ]Malware Scan:
    • Perform a thorough malware scan using reputable antivirus software to rule out any malicious software causing the issue. By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and potentially reset the issue with the Windows 7 Start Orb right-click functionality. Remember to proceed with caution when making changes to system settings.
