Whenever I shut down or reboot Windows7 I get a message that Windows is applying update 9 of 13, but the "update" never gets "applied" and Windows7 just hangs supposedly trying to apply it. Yet when I subsequently boot into Windows7 and look a Windows Update there are no important updates available, much less being applied.

Something is messed up. How do I fix this problem so that Windows7 does not attempt to apply a mythical 9 of 13 update, which does not exist, when I shut down, and hang my Windows& shutdown or reboot ?

    ]Run Windows Update Troubleshooter:
    • Windows includes a built-in troubleshooter for Windows Update. Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter to automatically detect and fix common issues with Windows Update.
[]Manually Install Updates via Microsoft Update Catalog:
    • You can try manually installing the missing updates by visiting the Microsoft Update Catalog. Search for the specific update that seems to be stuck, download it, and install it manually.

    ]Review Update History:
    • Check the update history in Windows Update to see if any updates have consistently failed to install. If you find problematic updates, you can try to troubleshoot or hide them to prevent them from being reinstalled.
    []Check System Integrity:
    • Run the System File Checker tool (SFC) to check for and repair any corrupted or missing system files that might be causing the update issue. Open an elevated Command Prompt and run sfc /scannow.
    [
    ]System Restore:
    • If the issue persists, you can try performing a System Restore to revert your system back to a point before the problem started occurring.
  2. Windows Update Service Reset:
    • Resetting the Windows Update components can sometimes resolve update-related issues. You can do this by running a batch script that stops services, renames folders, and restarts services related to Windows Update. By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve the issue where Windows appears to be stuck on update 9 of 13 during shutdown or reboot.
