Hi again,

I run Office 2007 on W7. If I open a Word doc by clicking on it directly, Word opens as expected, but when I close Word (using any method) a blank Word window stays open even though the doc has closed. In XP and Vista closing a single document by using the red X will close Word completely. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Solution
It seems like you are encountering an issue with Microsoft Word 2007 on Windows 7 where closing a document doesn't completely close the Word application as it did in Windows XP and Vista. One possible solution to this issue could be changing the settings in Microsoft Word itself to control how it behaves when documents are closed. Here are some steps you can try to resolve this issue:
  1. Update Office 2007: Ensure that your Office 2007 installation is up to date. Sometimes, updates can fix known issues and improve overall performance.
  2. Check Word Options:
    • Open Microsoft Word 2007.
    • Click on the Office Button (the round button in the top-left corner).
    • Select "Word Options."

    • In the "Advanced" section, look for options related to closing documents and exiting the application.
    • Ensure that the setting for "Show all windows in the taskbar" is unchecked.
    []Repair Office Installation:
    • You can try repairing your Office 2007 installation through the Control Panel.
    • Go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
    • Locate Microsoft Office 2007 in the list, right-click on it, and choose "Change."
    • Select the option to repair the installation.

    ]Registry Edit (Advanced):
    • If the issue persists, you can consider editing the Windows Registry. This should be done with caution as it involves making changes to system settings.
    • Press Win + R, type regedit, and press Enter to open the Registry Editor.
    • Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word (for Office 2007).
    • Look for a value named "AlwaysCloseLastWindow" and set it to 1. Before making any changes to the registry, it's crucial to back it up to avoid any potential issues. Incorrect changes to the registry can cause system instability. Try these steps and see if they help in resolving the issue with Microsoft Word not closing completely after closing a document.
