Windows 7 update 8 of 12 stalled

This started a few days ago... When I shut down Win 7 and the automatic updates start to run, it gets to 8 of 12 and just sits there with the ".." going back and forth... I left it like that and went to bed.... 8 (or so) hours later, it was still at 8 of 12???? I just hard booted..

Any ideas?

Can you boot into safe mode and go to the Windows\WinSXS folder and rename pending.xml to pending.disabled then try a boot?
