because you did it wrong would be my guess
netplwiz is the correct way to remove logon password proms and it really just auto puts the password in so you don't have to do it yourself
this option was removed from Windows 10 {people threw a hissy] then it was turned back on... many of the W11 builds also have it disabled but the current last few builds of 10 it works

What are the methods you have tried?
The conventional way is to open settings - Accounts - Sign in options. Then Windows hello pin and disable.
