I am a traditionalist and so run permanently in "desktop" mode because I don't like the look and feel of the new Windows 8.
Ever since I installed Windows 8.1 a blank green Microsoft "Store" window pops up from time to time on my desktop. When I click on it, the green is replaced by a normal...
On the web page Link Removed it says "Your data is not used for our advertising". Says the same thing in other places. I have been wondering what IS my data used for?
What the hell happened...I turned on the advertising and then turned it off....and now I inundated with the news feeds and RSS feeds again. Surely just turning the advertisements on/off should have effected it.
I don't know if this is the appropriate forum for this topic but I could not find an answer for this anywhere: since upgrading from Windows Vista 64bit to Windows 7 64 bit, whenever I'm watching a video on YouTube I hear advertizements running in the background that have nothing to do with the...
1) I posted an inquiry to this forum about 2 hours ago and note that my thread is the only one that nobody has responded to, so my first question as a new user is, "How long should I wait before exploring other options to try to solve a problem?" I expected that a forum moderator would have at...

I have no smart phone, so not familiar with how the Apps you can download for free work.
In my case, the app was on a Kindle Fire. But after a couple of weeks, I started seeing advertising on the screen.
Is this fairly normal for the free apps? Do paid apps not behave this way?

Foot traffic at Microsoft's retail stores must far lower than expected if the company has decided to start going door-to-door. This evening Microsoft will kick off a new advertising campaign intended to persuade consumers to upgrade their old "good enough PCs" to new ones running Windows 7.
