Because I have a few problems (one of which is described in the forum), or you can reinstall Windows 7 without losing any existing data, and simply replacing the current system files? I do not want to lose my music, installed programs and games. I do not want to move it to a pendrive or CD.
It is now possible to upload raw .dmp files from c:\windows\minidump using the Attachment system. I am currently doing some work on explaining how this Crash Dump analysis process works in a video, and realized it is not possible to upload these files. I have also increased the maximum upload...

Folks,
OK, I've had enough of things I can't see. How for example, can I find and view all files
named "index.dat". If you enter this into the search bar, you won't find any, but I assure you, there are dozens on the typical system. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.
There're many...
Hi,
I have a question about how drive space is reported by Windows 7. I just installed an upgrade - custom - and have not installed a great deal of software yet. But I noticed kind of a disparity in the space available vs the space used.
I have a 140G HD notebook. The Windows folder shows...

Faulty memory often comes up in posts relating to Win 7 64-bit issues (BSODs, corrupt system files etc), I ran Windows memory diagnostics many times with nary a blip and since 32-bit installed OK without non-repairable sys file corruptions, I assumed all was fine on the RAM front and continued...

I've just gotten three BSODs in a row. First came during general use, the other two, right after I logged in in normal mode. I'm in Safe Mode now.
They popped up in this order:
SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
MEMORY_MANAGEMENT
I ran memtest and the sticks seem good, so...

Ok, I'm looking to compress some folders to save some disk space and I know from experience that some files shouldn't be compressed (as it can screw up the booting, etc.) so does anyone have a comprehensive list of what not to compress in windows 7?
Long story short, I've bought a used laptop over eBay that comes pre-installed with W7 Ultimate. Been using it for 2-3 months without any problems. Today I tried to install something and I was asked to validate Windows.
I then found out my copy isn't genuine! So I paid around £160 for the...
