It seems like you are facing some connectivity issues with Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) on your Windows 7 Ultimate machine. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem:

Troubleshooting Steps for Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) Issue:

  • Check Network Settings:
  • Make sure that all network settings are configured correctly.
  • Verify that the NIC is set to 192.168.137.1 and the router (Linksys E1000) is set to 192.168.137.5.

  • Check if the issue persists after reconfiguring ICS.
  • Update Drivers:
  • Ensure that you have the latest drivers installed for your USB modem and NIC.
  • Update the drivers to the latest versions to avoid any compatibility issues.
  • Check for Conflicting Software:
  • Verify that there are no conflicting software applications that might be causing the BSOD errors.
  • Disable any security software temporarily to see if it resolves the issue.
  • Network Adapter Troubleshooting:
  • Run the Network Adapter Troubleshooter in Windows to diagnose and fix network adapter issues.
  • This tool can help pinpoint any specific problems with network connectivity.
  • Reset TCP/IP Stack:
  • Reset the TCP/IP stack on your Windows 7 machine to clear any network configuration issues.
  • Open Command Prompt with administrative privileges and run the following command:
    Code:
     netsh int ip reset
  • Check Firewall Settings:
  • Ensure that the Windows Firewall or any other third-party firewall software is not blocking the connection.
  • Temporarily disable the firewall to see if it resolves the issue with ICS.
  • System File Checker (SFC) Scan:
  • Run an SFC scan to check for any corrupted system files that might be causing the connectivity issue.
  • Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run the following command:
    Code:
     sfc /scannow

    Additional Recommendations:

  • If the issue persists after trying the above steps, you can consider reinstalling Windows 7 Ultimate to start fresh.
  • Before wiping and installing XP64, ensure that the hardware on your Windows 7 machine is compatible with Windows XP. By following these steps, you can troubleshoot the Internet Connection Sharing issue on your Windows 7 Ultimate machine and potentially resolve the connectivity problems you are facing.
