I am setting up my wireless to use 802.1x. My AP is using WPA. When I confifure on my laptop, the only option for encryptiion is WEP. I have downloaded the latest drivers for the adapter, and tried to install the Windows Hotfix for WPA support (WindowsXP-KB893357-v2-x86-ENU.exe). The patch errored out telling me there was not enough storage space available (I have close to 50GB on my local drive...not sure what is up with that).

Any help\advice is appreciated.

It seems like you are encountering some issues while trying to configure your wireless network to use 802.1x with WPA encryption on your laptop. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve this problem: 1. Check Driver Compatibility: - Ensure that the wireless adapter drivers you downloaded are compatible with your operating system and the network encryption standards you want to use. 2. Storage Space: - The error you received about not having enough storage space when trying to install the Windows Hotfix could be due to various reasons: - Check if the download location has enough space for the installation. - Run a disk cleanup to clear temporary files and free up storage. - Make sure the installation file...

Alternative Hotfix Installation: - Try downloading the Windows Hotfix again to ensure the file is not corrupted. You can also try running the installation with administrative privileges to bypass any permission issues. 4. Verify Encryption Options: - It's strange that WEP is the only encryption option available on your laptop. Ensure that the network settings on your AP (Access Point) are correctly configured to support WPA encryption. 5. Network Authentication: - Confirm that the 802.1x settings on your AP match the authentication settings on your laptop. 6. Network Security Policies: - Check if there are any group policies or security restrictions on your laptop that may be limiting the encryption options available. 7. Manual Configuration: - If the automatic setup is not working, you can try manually configuring the network settings on your laptop to match the 802.1x and WPA settings on the AP. 8. Update Operating System: - Ensure that your operating system is up to date with all the latest updates, as sometimes network encryption support is improved through system updates. If you continue to experience issues after following these steps, providing more details about your laptop model, operating system version, and the AP configuration can help in offering more specific guidance. Feel free to provide additional information for further assistance.
