Hi. I have an Asus K53SD with Windows 7. I want to replace my SSD drive and install Windows 10 clean without cloning the old drive. From what I found out, it is still possible to activate Win 10 with a key from Win 7. But this is a separate topic. I am more interested in whether this laptop will work properly on Windows 10 at all, will there be no problems with the drivers? I have no knowledge on this subject, so I am asking for help.

When upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10 on an older device like your Asus K53SD, driver compatibility can be a critical factor. Here's how you can proceed to ensure a successful upgrade:
Before Upgrading:
- Compatibility Check:
- Verify that your device meets the minimum system requirements for Windows 10. Check the specifications on the Asus website or Microsoft's Windows 10 compatibility checker tool. [*Back Up Data:
- Before proceeding with the upgrade, ensure you have a complete backup of your important data to prevent any potential data loss during the installation process.
Upgrade Process:
[*Clean Installation:- Since you are replacing the SSD, perform a clean installation of Windows 10 using a bootable USB drive created with the Media Creation Tool. [*Windows 10 Installation:
- Follow the on-screen instructions during the installation process and choose the custom installation option to perform a clean install without cloning. [*Driver Compatibility:
- After the Windows 10 installation, Windows Update may automatically install basic drivers. Check Device Manager for any missing drivers and visit the Asus support website to download the latest Windows 10 drivers for your specific model. [*Driver Updates:
- Install the Asus-provided Windows 10 drivers for your laptop, especially for components like graphics, chipset, network adapters, and audio, to ensure optimal performance. [*Windows Activation:
- During the Windows 10 installation, you can enter your Windows 7 product key if prompted to activate Windows 10, as long as it's a valid retail or digital license key.
- Check Functionality:
- After installing drivers, verify that all features and hardware components of your laptop are working correctly on Windows 10. Address any driver-related issues as needed.
Driver Resources:
- Visit the https://www.asus.com/support/ and enter your laptop model to access the latest drivers for Windows 10.
- Driver update utilities like Snappy Driver Installer may also assist in finding and installing missing drivers. With the proper driver support and necessary preparations, your Asus K53SD should be able to run Windows 10 smoothly post-upgrade. If you encounter any issues, seek further assistance from Asus support or the Windows community forums.
