I've only noticed this one recently but I've set my Desktop folder attributes (and all others apart from the obvious) to "General" with which I have the large icon view. I always apply the settings to sub-folders as well.

However, when I create a new folder on the Desktop and drop something in it, when opened I've got the list view instead, which is my setting for the "Documents" attribute.

I'm sure this never used to be like this . Any ideas?

Solution
It seems like the folder view settings might be getting overwritten or not applied correctly. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:
  1. Reset Folder View Settings:
    • Go to the Desktop folder.
    • Right-click on an empty space and select "View" > "Large icons" (or your desired view).
    • Then, go to "Options" > "Change folder and search options."
    • In the "View" tab, click on "Apply to Folders" to apply the current view settings to all folders.
    []Check Folder Template Settings:
    • Right-click on the new folder created on the Desktop.
    • Go to "Properties" > "Customize" tab.
    • Check the "Optimize this folder for" setting. Ensure it is set to "General Items" or...

]Apply Folder View Settings to All Folders:
    • Open a folder on the Desktop with the view settings you prefer.
    • Press and hold the "Alt" key, then go to "Tools" > "Folder options" (it will appear as "Options").
    • In the "View" tab, click on "Apply to Folders" to apply these settings to all folders.
    []Registry Edit (Advanced):
    • CAUTION: Editing the registry can have unintended consequences. Proceed with caution and always back up your registry.
    • Press Win + R, type regedit, and hit Enter to open the Registry Editor.
    • Navigate to the following key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer.
    • Look for a subkey named "Streams" or "Settings" that might store the folder view settings. You can delete it or export it for backup before deletion.

    ]Create a New User Profile:
    • Sometimes, user profile corruption can cause such issues. Creating a new user profile and checking if the problem persists can help identify if it's profile-specific. These steps should help in resolving the issue with the folder view settings on your Desktop. If the issue persists after trying these steps, feel free to provide more details for further assistance.
