I use a pair of headphones (No speakers or anything else plugged in) and whenever I start Windows it defaults my audio to 7.1 instead of headphones. I have to manually change my audio to headphones every time I startup.

Why is it doing this?

Solution
If you right click on the speaker icon and check for Playback devices, do you show the headphones as default? If not you might try that.
Hello and welcome to the windows7forums,

We'd need to know the exact make and model of your sound card.

Om most newer cards, there is a setting in the options to choose one input as default

Check this link and sekect Audigy, then your model number
