Hope anyone can help me with this problem I have been experiencing with the back up.

I have a 320G external HDD which i have assigned to be the location for the back up but everytime i try, it fails.

I tried two ways of backing up:
1. normal back up
> it goes all the way to preparing, backing up to a certain percentage, copying files then say it wasnt successful.EC is 0x8100037.

2. clicking on Create a system image
- says its preparing to create a backup > backing up for some time > and gives me an error:
the operation failed due to a device error encountered with either the source or the destination. If the source or dest volume is on a disk, run chkdsk /r on the source or dest vol, and then retry operatioin (0x8078012D)

Addtl Info: The requesat could not be performed bec of an I/O device error, 0x8007045D.

Please help!

What type of connection does the drive have?

Can you move files to it otherwise?

Do you have any other external devices?
