Windows 7 Blue Screen when Hibernate, Sleep, Restart or Shutdown

Hello, I've found that when whenever I let my computer go to sleep, hibernate or restart it or shut it down then a blue screen will appear and restart the system. When the system comes to it will tell me the event name was Blue Screen and that the computer is recovering from a unexpected shutdown. I've filled out the form for information on my computer and I hope it will show here. I'm currently running my computer on the High Performance plan and not letting it go to any other mode, I would really like to solve this problem. Thanks for any help.

By the way, my system is a dual boot with Windows XP. XP is on my main drive and 7 is on my second drive.

Same problem.

I have the same problem. I'm running 7229 x64. Every time I hibernate it and restore it crashes on the restore. Someone mentioned driver issues usually is the problem with that. Do you have any complaining drivers in your system right now?

Blue Screen on shutdown then auto restarts

I have a very similar issue. W7 runs perfectly until I shut it and then memory dumps and restarts.
The motherboard is an ASUS P4800 with bios set to default. (Also having the same issue on a system with a Biostar MB)
This began to occur after downloading a set of updates.
Now when I start the system I have to disable/enable the LAN port before being able to access the network. Once done the system runs fine all day until shutdown.
Any clues out there?

Hi
I had similar problems when hibernating or sleeping (not on an ordinary shutdown, though)

Sometimes when resuming from hibernate, it would go into an endless loop of rebooting & shutting down straight away.

I tried many things, and each one improved the situation slightly.

1. I upgraded all my chipset, graphics & soundcard drivers from their manufacturer's sites ...minor improvement.
2. Flashed the BIOS to the latest version (extremely nerve-racking)...about 30% improvement.
3. Installed a later build (7232)....a huge improvement.
4. Discovered an "autorun.inf" file on the root of my external hard drive...deleted it....now only BSOD every couple of days.
5. Uninstalled Nero 7...no more BSOD's.

Point is....I don't know if any of these situations apply to you, or which one (or combination of which ones) finally solved the problem for me.
Just thought some of what worked for me might help others.
Cheers

Oh....nearly forgot...I disabled hybrid sleep as well.

same problem on a brand new laptop, win7 full release

I'm getting the same problem; a very annoying Blue Screen crash after unlocking the desktop from being away. Happens somewhat frequently i.e. way too often for a full-release OS. System is an hp dv4-2040us laptop. Totally stock setup with the latest video drivers, with Windows 7 home premium with the latest updates as of this writing. The first crash happened less than 24 hours of ownership. I thought this kind of headache was supposed to be solved during all the betas and RCs (and Vista).

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!

I used the MS debugger and found the problem to be with a driver file (go figure) called libusb0.sys. This file takes control of the USB controller and acts as a filter for generic USB communication with any USB device. I installed this replacement driver when I installed a program called LibUsb-Win32 to get a PS3 SixAxis controller working on my computer. The program is also used for a few cameras and printers I think. If you uninstall this program it will revert to the old drivers and you will no longer have the issue. If you don't know what device or program installed this file I can't help you, if you are experiencing a similar but not exact problem, I can't help you. The "Blue Screen when Hibernate, Sleep, Restart, or Shutdown" is being caused by windows attempting to power off the devices located on the USB Hub, on my laptop this includes most components, not just things you'd associate with USB (Sound/Wireless/Wired were all on the Hub).

I am using Windows 7, x86, on a laptop.

Could you please be more specific: how exactly did you use MS Debugger?
Thanks,

Usb hub success!

@Tobeuo -- You are a GOD!!! This has been driving me nuts ever since I hooked up my HP dock to my laptop running Vista SP2. I KNEW it had to be one thing. Tried MS Debugging, symbols didn't work despite installing full correct version, proper path. MS code SUCKS. It's impossible to weed through it unless everything works.

Uninstalled
LibUsb-Win32, everything back to perfect order. Thanks a million! I was going nuts. It's so frustrating when you know it's just ONE SIMPLE THING, and nobody knows, and everybody says for certain it's this or that, and it's not. And of course MS is of no help.

I even had to look on a third party site, just to decypher how to begin using MS Debugging Tools!! For the millionth time, MS is of no help to us mortals.

All this from an IT guy 15 years in the field. Dang.

zip and upload your mindump files guys and someone can take a look and show you the output from windows debugger , or alternatively see if bluescreenview shows you enough information to solve your problem ?

Dear experts!
I've just installed Windows 7 (after formatting - not upgrading), my old O.S used to be Windows XP.
After several crushes I've decided to Google for the solution and reached this thread..

My problem is the infamous BSOD after resuming windows from hibernation (not on a laptop)
I'll attach a copy of the relevant event log below..my guess is that I need to update my BIOS
(my MB is a Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3)

what do you think?

Thanks for any future advice!

I had this problem and it was fixed after analysis of minidumps
which indicated that I needed to update my graphics card driver.

ps. I'm using a Radeon x1300 device and the update driver option
in the hardware device list entry found the correct version.

What ickymay says is exactly what you want:

zip and upload your mindump files guys and someone can take a look and show you the output from windows debugger , or alternatively see if bluescreenview shows you enough information to solve your problem ?

1. Navigate to C:\Windows\Minidump to zip and attach the .dmp files.

2. CPU-Z MEMORY and SPD + RamMon as .txt or .html:

the infamous BSOD after resuming windows from hibernation

Let's just read your crash dumps first.

Hello Guys!
I'm new into this issue. I have similar problem, using win7 x64 OS and everytime I put to sleep, during wake-up shows me the BSOD.
Like ickymay asked, I attach the dump file, maybe you could help me finding the problem!
Thanks in advance! God bless you!View attachment 021611-25537-01.zip

If this is the only occurrence of blue screens, then make sure you have enough free space on your system disk and that you have all system updates and latest drivers.

sorry for the double post. but i found something of interest. in device manager theres a 'PCI simple communications controller' that has no proper drivers installed. then using unknown device identifier it shows as
@system32\drivers\pci.sys #1920;PCI simple communications controller
'chip:Intel G35/G33/G31/P31/p35 chipset HECI Controller' ..

but i downloaded the proper latest version from intel's site. and is this causing the BSOD?
thanks in advance
