Solution
If you're able to run commands when it's "locked up" it's probably just an application hanging. If you open task manager and go to the details tab. If the video hangs again right click on the process associated with the player and select 'Analyze Wait Chain' if there is anything listed in the Windows post a screen shot.

This is nuts, now the thumbdrive isn't recognized after doing chkdsk /r & rebooting. It's got to be something to do with the usb drivers I would think but I'm not sure how to remove ALL the usb devices to have them reconfigured since the kbd & mouse are usb also.
the drives are No longer on the hub so its not the hub.
weird part is it see's the passport but not the other 2
but device manager see's all of them.
Since device manager see's them I don't think its a bios issue.
I'll have my son unplug everything but the kbd and mouse and put them in usb 2 since I doubt usb 3 is going to make a hill of beans difference.
any special settings in bios I should check?
I'm also going to uninstall avira yet again.

Hopefully this one tells you more.. once again dxdiag wasn't auto found so I created it manually, then reran telling it to skip everythign already written.
This time it happened within 60 seconds of starting pandora and a flash game ( soliders inc )
It said "clock watchdog timeout"
on the positive side of things, after removing all the stuff yesterday, drives are back! *shakes head in confusion*
I haven't had this much trouble with windows in a LOT of years.

yes, .. so system was fine for a while, then 1709 came through and things went to hell in a hand basket.. after fighting for last 2 mo to get it fixed, MS screwed up and destoryed the uefi bootloader so I wound up having to do a brand new totally clean, new paritions etc install..
Today is first day and already got bsod ( and tons of other permissions issues ) 2x.
here's the latest
and the screenshot is from the one moments before it.

Hi, thanks for responding, I hadn't at that point because there are NUMEROUS install issues. I've got an appointment with level 2 MS tech tomorrow @ noon so hopefully they will figure out the TRUE root cause instead of bandaiding.
as for the build, yeah, i'm wondering about that.. I had hit a button in settings that apparently caused it, although now it says its not turned on, so idk..
I dont' suppose there is a way to rollback w/o reinstalling? Do I need/want to rollback?
Appreciate your help guys.

You also need to run windows update.
Try these scans
File scans
Right click on the Start menu icon and from the revealed list choose 'admin command prompt'. Type:
sfc /scannow
press enter and await results
In the same command prompt and after the above scan has finished type:
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
Press enter and await results (longer this time).
If the first scan found files it could not repair but the second scan is successful, run the first scan again using the same command prompt box and this time it should repair the files found.
I really have to hit the sack but will check back later.

oh, and just fyi kemical I did run both right after I sent the report here, and both revealed no issues.
sense then I've installed realtek's chipset audio drivers and nvidia's drivers.
I'll get lan done today. I'm not sure Asus's asmedia drivers are current since its been so long since asus updated them?

this dump file is pointing to Macrium Reflect as the cause. Please uninstall to test.

taking macrium out didn't solve it.. I just had another and on reboot I checked hwinfo and noticed that core voltage on core 1 and 5 were VERY low..
I had a flash game, spotify and a dl going when it crashed this time. Seems to me spotify has caused it before and I read it has for others.

i just went into bios "optimized" it, made sure the energy saver was turned off and touched nothing else.. now voltages are up! it's set to "normal" in bios btw..
oh, I also uninstalled the nvidia drivers using ddu
grrr.. looks like they are going up and down depending on activity?
here's what they look like after nvidia was reinstalled ( no experience or 3dvision)

looks good. The windows update thing is odd though. You can however force windows not to update hardware. How to Stop Windows 10 From Automatically Updating Hardware Drivers
