Windows 7 BSOD within 60 seconds of running IE8

Hi

I have a new medion akoya pc (off ebay) running windows 7 32bit. After loading a couple of pages in IE 8 I will get a bsod. Firefox seems to manage for about 10 minutes before quitting.

After a BSOD it will have another dump soon after restart without starting IE8 - after that it seems ok as long as I dont start any browsers .

thanks for your advice.

1. sfc/ scannow just flashes a box very briefly which disappears. I assume thats not supposed to happen.
2. All IE toolbars have been uninstalled
3. This machine is a brand new(ish) Medion Akoya bought over ebay. It is not/never been overclocked, and its power should be enough to run i8 on a 15" monitor for more than a minute.
4. The bios has not been touched.

All nforce/nvidia drivers have been updated earlier.

I have run HDDscan - the RD-Read ran ok lasting about an hour. The Temperature monitor is running now - all looks ok. What other tests should I run with it.

the aero trouble shooter didnt find any errors.

Latest dump attached which seemed to happen after a windows update.

I can see all of your drivers are well and not potential bsod issues. That leaves only one possibility.

Also, all of the different types of bsod mean a hardware issue.

Before you do that, check in your BIOS for inappropriate settings for the memory...
A quick check is to simply put your memory timing on "Auto".

Sorry, the proper use of sfc /scannow should be to first go to Start > Run, and type cmd. Now type sfc /scannow.

Go to Start > Run and type eventvwr.msc and look in the System log for recent errors.

Look especially for "disk" errors that may be an indication of drive corruption.

Sorry, the proper use of sfc /scannow should be to first go to Start > Run, and type cmd. Now type sfc /scannow.

Go to Start > Run and type eventvwr.msc and look in the System log for recent errors.

Look especially for "disk" errors that may be an indication of drive corruption.

You can double click these to read the details and copy the description to the clipboard by clicking the double-paper copy icon.

Below are just the critical and the errors I got. There were a few hundred warnings as well but no 'disk' errors. Not sure which ones to show you details of but let me know.

As to getting to the bios - Im having problems - F11 takes me to recovery, F8 takes me to the boot manager...

I also ran the windows memory diagnostic tool which seemed to run ok although I am not sure where it keeps the logs.

I pulled out each ram stick and the computer ran ok, put a single ram into each slot and all worked ok, then when I put in both sticks the machine crashes. So it appears the machine does not run with two sticks in it!

Raise the vdimm (memory voltage) by .1 in the bios with both sticks in and see if it crashes like that.

Unfortunately I have a ms-7366 motherboard that doesnt have that option within the bios - I cant find any software to do it either.

You're the second person to say that in the last 24 hours and the answer is the same to you. Of course you have that in the bios. All motherboards do, even the cheapest and oldest.

It's in the top right under Frequency/Voltage Control.

Well this is mysterious as I appear to have the up to date bios(1/4/2010) but no voltage option on the top right hand side as described in the manual.

I have tried the msi live update and it says I dont need to update the bios. Any ideas?

Yeah, MSI gets a little weird on some revisions of the board and locks the options. In almost all cases, you can find a bios version made by a hobbyist or enthusiast that unlocks those settings and shows it in the menu. I myself have MSI-7211 and needed to install the unlocked bios to have the options.

So you could try that or simply replace the memory instead, with a matching set.

I tried a matching set and got the same issues. I will hunt around for a hacked bios but there seems to be little out there.

Search for your board and this name: 1234s282. He made my bios and tons of others for MSI.
