I moved My Documents folder from my C drive to D drive. Since that time I get an error message 0x8004010F that Outlook cannot open my data file. I've checked my data file setting in Outlook and the new location is shown in data file location. My outlook profile points to the correct location. I've tried system restore, office repair and scan pst with no success. I've even restored the pst file from a backup and I get the same message. It looks like something in the office 10 software cannot find the file but I cannot understand why since all pointers seem to point to new location. I did notice when I first ran scanpst.exe that it went to the old file location first so I deleted the old shortcut thinking office would correct itself but no luck. The pst file seems OK and office opens it OK but then it cannot access the data file for sending and receiving messages. Could this maybe be a security issue? Any thoughts?

Thanks, Ralph

Ralph, it sounds like you've tried several troubleshooting steps already, but let's delve deeper into some potential solutions for the error 0x8004010F that you're encountering with Outlook after moving your "My Documents" folder from the C drive to the D drive. Ralph, it sounds like you've tried several troubleshooting steps already, but let's delve deeper into some potential solutions for the error 0x8004010F that you're encountering with Outlook after moving your "My Documents" folder from the C drive to the D drive. Here are some additional steps you can take to resolve this issue: 1. Update Outlook Data File Settings: - Ensure that the data file settings in Outlook point to the correct location on the D drive. You've mentioned that the data file location in Outlook is set to the new location, but it's worth double-checking this to confirm. 2. Recreate Outlook Profile: - Try recreating your Outlook profile. Sometimes, creating a new Outlook profile can resolve persistent issues like this. This will create a new profile with the correct settings. 3. Check File Permissions: - Verify that your user account has appropriate permissions to access the PST file in the new location on the D drive. Make sure that your user account has full control permissions over the folder where the PST file is stored. 4. Repair Outlook Installation: - Run a repair on your Microsoft Office installation. This can help fix any corrupted files or settings that might be causing the issue. You mentioned that you've tried an Office repair, but it's worth attempting again after ensuring all Office applications are closed. 5. Disable Antivirus/Firewall: - Temporarily disable your antivirus and firewall software as they might be blocking Outlook from accessing the PST file. Sometimes, security software can interfere with the operation of applications. 6. Move PST File Back Temporarily: - As a test, try moving the PST file back to the original location on the C drive where Outlook expects it to be. Check if this resolves the issue. If it does, then there might be a specific configuration related to the D drive causing the problem. 7. Create a Symbolic Link: - Instead of physically moving the files, you can create a symbolic link to redirect access from the original location to the new location. This way, Outlook will still think the files are in the original location while they are actually stored on the D drive. If none of these steps resolve the issue, it might be beneficial to consult with a professional IT support technician who can further investigate the problem and provide a tailored solution. Let me know if you need further assistance or if any of these steps help resolve the issue!
