Windows 10 computer has no sound

My computer cant make no sound it reproduce music and vídeos but without áudio,the green áudio meter on the mixer goes up but no sound is played,my áudio devices are the following AMD High defintion áudio device and IDT High definition áudio codec and both of them are connected according to HP support assistant,i already checked the manager on sound,video and games controller and everything seems okay no exclamation marks,red symbols and the according to the pc every driver is up to date,i dont know how to solve this,i would greatly appreciate a helping hand on the matter.

Check the obvious first of course

• Drivers are installed correctly (verify in Device Manager)
• Make sure volume is up
• Make sure mute is off
• Test another source (ex: Head phones)

Not so obvious

• Make sure you have the correct device selected as the default sound device, I've seen people have "Monitor Speakers" as the default but no audio cable connecting to the monitor

To check this

1. Press ctrl + x
2. Select Control Panel
3. Select Sound
4. Playback tab
5. Should have a green checkbox on the "Default Device"
6. To Change, right click the correct device, select "Default Device"
7. Test

ok i have done that and everything seems fine but the sound is not working

Hi

Try this.

Open Device Manager.

Find your audio device in the Sound, video and game controllers tab.

Right Click on it and select Uninstall, select the Delete all software for this device check box and click OK.

Reboot your computer.
Windows will reinstall and reconfigure the device and find the drivers for it.

There's a good chance that this will fix the problem.

You may need to do this with both the "IDT High definition áudio codec" and the "AMD High defintion áudio device".

I'd do them one at a time as apposed to doing them both at the same time.

May be overlooked the following:
- right click on the loudspeaker icon on the right hand side of the taskbar
- select Mixer and check whether nothing is muted (switched off) and all volume level are open

i did that and its still not working i dont know whats causing this but apparently its not a driver problem

Are these internal speakers and have to tested different hardware?

no they are not internal speaker,and the sound doesnt work with headphones either

but i have not tried other hardware as in other soundcard if thats what you are asking?

I meant different hardware such as different speakers or headphones. Since you have already tried that, it wouldn't hurt to purchase a cheap audio card and see if that works. It's certainly possible the audio hardware is defective.

You could determine if it is hardware related or Windows. Download a Linux ISO such as Ubuntu, burn it to disc or create a bootable USB and boot to that, select Try Ubuntu and test audio. If it works then you know your hardware is fine.

And just to rule out certain causes try also a different set of speakers or a different headphone. And remember that if a headphone is connected your speakers are muted.

im trying to get into my bios to check if my onboard sound card is off but im having trouble doing it the option ofr firmware setting isnt there when i try the recovery method and the button timing thing isnt working for me, do you guys know why ?

I believe if it was disabled in BIOS it would not even show up in Windows.

also the speaker and headphones audio goes up normaly in the mixer though i cant hear it but windows system sound keeps still

Can you post a screenshot of your Device manager with both "Audio inputs and outputs" and "Sound, video and game controllers" expanded

here it is i have did the driver update thing and uninstalled and then rebooted,but to no use

It's really weird that it says CODEC, I think your driver is screwed up. Go to the properties for the IDT High Definition CODEC under audio input and output and roll back the driver, reboot and test.

did it,i still have no sound i have run a windows update after the problem began and it did the drivers thing so i guess its not driver.
its not related to windows 10 since i updated long before the problem began
my sound settings havent been changed either the problem started sunddenly
this computer is late 2009 early 2010 old im assuming it to be hardware
im gonna do test with the linux ISO thanks for the help

I still think it's driver related, the reason I believe this is because you should have an actual speaker device listed under audio input and output. What is the make and model of your computer? I would also still go ahead and test Linux out and rule out or confirm a hardware issue.
