I just got a new HP laptop with windows 7 home and I get excellent connection in my living room (where my desktop is located) but as soon as i go into my room i still am connected but get 'no network access'. Then in a minute or so it totally disconnects. On an older laptop that is windows XP works perfectly fine in my room. Any suggestions?

What is the manufacturer and model number of the wireless router you are using. Go to their website and see if they have a firmware update that you can apply. Read the instructions carefully and make sure you don't attempt the update over a wireless connection. Also what type of encryption are you using, try running it open for testing and see if you still have distance issues. Then try using a different level of encryption WPA, WPA2 etc. See if any of that helps. Also uncheck IPv6 in the properties of you Network Adapter, my wireless adapter won't connect at all with IPv6 enabled.
