We have the latest version of Windows 10 on one of our laptops.

Although we have checked several times, and Device Manager says we have the latest driver, Realtek Audio keeps telling us ”Update failed.”

How can we fix that?

If the "Update failed " message is a Windows update message you can do the following.

  1. Press [Windows key + r]
  2. Type services.msc
  3. Stop the "Background Intelligent Transfer Service" and "Windows Update"
  4. Navigate to C:\Windows and delete the SoftwareDistribution directory
  5. Restart the "Windows Update" service
  6. Press [Windows key + i] go to Updates
  7. Check for updates and the directory will rebuild
