Hi

Because I don't have Windows Updates set to install automatically I get the message to open Windows Update and install new updates every day, sometimes several times a day.

Getting to Windows Update is more round about in Windows 8 than is was in 7, which had a button on the start menu.

Today I created a link and put it on my taskbar.

If anyone else is interested here's how you do it....

Windows Update Shortcut - Create in Windows 8

I used the manual method just because I like to know what's going on.

Hi Patcooke

I didn't even know there was an icon for it in Control Panel, I've been getting to it either through the Metro Search app, or through Control Panel, Review Your Computers Status, Windows Update, etc.

I saw that article about how to do it and thought Thats a great idea!, so I did it. LOL

Well live and learn.

It wont stop the update notifications, though. I have mine set to "Never check...", and check manually on a scheduled basis.

Yeah, I still get the notifications, I tried a process that's supposed to install the Defender Updates automatically by creating a scheduled task, but it doesn't seem to be working.

I have to do them manually every day.
