I have a usb bluetooth receiver that I only plug in when I'm using it. The last time I put it in, win7 re-installed the drivers, and in the device manager it now has #4 added to the end of the device name. I've only ever had one device of this type plugged in, so why would it be listed as #4?

Solution
Have you checked the Device Manager to see what it shows? Are you plugging the device into the same USB port every time?

Windows will set up multiple listing for some devices when it thinks it has a new one. The designation just keeps it from overwriting an earlier version. It happens on my network adapters if I am changing things around.

If you only have the one entry, you should be able to rename it.
